The design doc at 11pm that taught me why local-first voice matters

Marcus is a backend engineer at a fintech in Stockholm. At 11pm on a Thursday, he's documenting a new payment settlement flow in Notion. Marcus won't touch cloud transcription anyway. Code isn't meant to sit in someone else's infrastructure. The payment logic he's documenting, the security considerations, the system design, that's IP. Local transcription isn't a nice-to-have. It's a requirement.

The moment voice becomes the default

When there's no word cap, something changes. You stop thinking about the tool as a convenience and start thinking about it as the medium. Marcus drafts entire design docs by voice now. Slack threads explaining incident postmortems. PR review comments that are longer and clearer than they'd be if he was typing. The thinking doesn't break. The flow doesn't interrupt.
